Can’t Keep The Big Line Down…

As the stats on the left show, The ca$h line are doing their best to show the league they’ve still got it.

I’m really hoping that Kevin Lowe is run out of Edmonton before then end of the season so he doesn’t get a chance to make an offer to Spezza. Then again I guess our real problem in a bit closer to home, with Toronto needing someone like giggles…

Centre Ice Online Sucks!

Since today was Turkey day, we had guests over so I couldn’t watch the game on TV out of the corner of my eye. (That’s not quite correct, yeah I’m looking at you Sportsnet Ontario¹! Why can’t I watch an out of market game in Toronto?) So I grabbed a feed care of NHL Centre Ice Online². (It’s still free tomorrow!)

Well, I’ve never seen a feed restart from the begining so many times when it lost sync. How many times did the audio screw up? The screen, she be so small!

Seriously, I get much better feeds off of the CBC’s webcast.

It will hurt when it is over, but boy oh boy. What a nice start ot the season.

Are you kidding me?¹ The Sun says that Murray is working over Dany’s agent to the tune of 7.5 - 9 million a season. Should be a pretty easy sell dependant on the length of the contract.

I can’t believe that they are trying to get this done this early. I mean, I’m estatic for the deal, but wow! Who’d have thunk it?

So whither Jason Speeza? Will Jason be cut loose next year? I really hope not, as he is nice and young and hot right now. It would be a real shame to lose him. But who would go instead? Redden?

The future may be a core built around Speeza, Heatley, Kelly, Vermette, Volchenkov, Mezaros, Fisher, Emery and Eaves. That coupled with a bunch of the young-uns… Not bad at all…

The injury bug has hit the Senators hard.

• Emery - Wrist
• Redden - Back
• Fisher - Groin

And we almost lost Spezza to a foot injury! What’s going on here? We need to have a healthy team to start the season to get under the skin of our evil enemies in the Northeast Division!

Only time will tell as to whether we’ll be able to weather the injuries this year. (Yeah, I’m an ass for saying it…)

It seems pretty likely¹ that Muckler is no longer GM in Ottawa. Expect an announcement in the next few days.So why is this happening on the heels of what can be argued as the most sucessful playoff run in modern Senator’s history? Quite simply the will to win isn’t there yet.

Yeah, it hurts to say it…

Muckler has for the past few seasons only been willing to minorly tinker with the roster, merely adding one or two ‘fixes’, and seemingly only when people were calling for his head. Usually these fixes haven’t worked out. Notably this year’s fixes have done much better, Corvo, Preissing et al.

However his much greater folly has never been to mess with the core of the team since the much hyped Heatley for Hossa trade. In not touching the core of the team he has shown his faith on the ability of that group to step up when needed. That group utterly failed him during the final round of the playoffs.

Spezza and Heatley were non factors. Totally shut down. Redden, Muck’s pick over Chara (of which I agree) while produced somewhat, he was a very large liability on the ice during most defensive plays. Not to mention of his non-play all season long.

Perhaps the final straw was Muckler’s unwillingness to trade Redden this off season?

Ben from SensArmyBlog was the heavy favorie after getting two thirds of the big line in Spezza and Heatley by way of the snake draft. Who knew they’d be such non-factors? (sigh)

My secondary victory was propped up by a mean combination of secondary scoring anchored by the mighty captain Alfredsson and Fisher. Amazingly only Priessing didn’t notch a point. Here are my final stats:
